The Importance of Diversity in Property Services

A diverse workforce is fundamental for maximum productivity, fostering innovation, retaining talent and delivering overall business success. In fact, Mckinsey data revealed that companies focusing on racial and ethnic diversity are 36% more likely to have financial returns above average for their industry.

There’s a perception that the property services industry is predominantly white and male-dominated, which employers are working hard to overturn by bolstering their diversity & inclusion (D&I) policies to appeal to a broader talent pool.

However, according to Gallup, only 55% of people agree that their organisation has policies promoting D&I, suggesting there’s more work to be done.

Diversity comes in many forms
A diverse workforce comprises different people from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels. It requires creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone regardless of:

  • Age
  • Ethnicity
  • Religious & political beliefs
  • Gender
  • Physical abilities
  • Socioeconomic background
  • Sexual orientation

For property services companies to create an authentically diverse environment and culture, they must foster and promote it from within. We believe that diversity and inclusion are critical to the success of Masterfix and the future of our industry. In this blog, we look at how Masterfix has built a robust D&I strategy to be proud of.

We identify, embrace and celebrate differences
Our differences add depth to the services we provide for our clients. The unique perspectives each employee brings to the table help us establish deeper connections with clients and make us better problem-solvers and more innovative thinkers.

We’re always learning
Our management team must lead by example, which is why we invest in continuous training to ensure our processes remain fair and inclusive, with clear career pathways developed to ensure all employees have access to the same opportunities to progress.

We listen
Everyone’s voice should be heard. That’s why we’ve created a safe space that allows all workers to share their experiences and feedback, whether that’s through one-on-one or group discussions or via anonymous feedback surveys.

We take action
Listening is important, but action is crucial. We are committed to making ongoing improvements and hold ourselves accountable by regularly sharing our progress with employees, clients and other key stakeholders. Furthermore, we continue to identify ways to become a more proactive figure on D&I within our industry, so we can all contribute to real change.
